Question by Watcher Of Fools: Why do religious people always say Stalin was an atheist and killed for atheism?
Without mentioning that Stalin was the leader of the communist party and wanted to eliminate political opposition to gain undisputed power.
Isn’t that kind of important?

Stalin was a very prominent historical figure. You’d have to be a complete idiot not to know about him.

Yeah, very important. He killed religious folk because, in his world, religion detracted from one's loyalty to the government.

Hmm, it seems you delved into some group or info that has missed the rest of that info.
In all actuality religious people know that Stalin was a mass murder of his own people and a power hungry tyrant. He also oppressed freedom of religion possibly do to the fact that it would give the people hope and ideals on the lines of the Seven Virtues of the Holy Spirit as well as the works of mercy.
He was pure evil no matter how you looked at it.

It's usual in response to this statement:
Religion has killed more people than anything else in the world.
Also an oversimplification.

He was atheist, but that had nothing to do with him killing. Unlike Hitler, who killed people in the name of his God.

Stalin was training as a priest in the Russian Orthodox church in his native Georgia and probably retained those beliefs.
