Why do Siberian women take great pride of being Siberian?

Question by ajharpo: Could someone tell me why Siberian people/women take great pride of being Siberian?
I asked what the big deal is about being Siberian to this girl online in Siberia. She retorts that it is better than the rest of Russia. What’s the deal? She got mad at me. What makes Siberians better than anyone else? I still want to visit Omsk or Novosibirsk one day. It sounds interesting. Spasibo!:)

well, they think that surviving in a cold climate makes you stronger and even prettier. THey sometimes think that Siberians are less spoiled. The next point is about the Wars. The most of Russian wars were in the Western Russia, not in Siberia. But I lived in siberia and was not excited about it!

My first tour in the Army was in Alaska. The locals referred to all other Americans as "cheechako's", a time-honored way of calling someone a totally useless, pampered, waste of time who wouldn't survive 8-hours without help…and another way to insult the city of Da Bears and Da Cubs.

If they (the Alaskans and Siberians) live in some of the world's most beautiful and demanding country, maybe they Are better than the rest of us.

Some of them think that they're the embodiment of the "frontier spirit" (even though most of them live in cities) and that the evil Muscovites are exploiting their labor. I remember a while ago, some fool started a Wikipedia section in the "Siberian language" (a self-made mixture of archaic Russian words, some Ukrainian and some purely made up mumbo-jumbo). Needless to say, his little joke of a project got closed pretty quickly.
Oh well, some people just need to be proud of something.

Yeah, I agree with Olga. I highly doubt that they're proud. Personally, I think people from Moscow are probably take greater pride in who they are. I'm from Siberia and I HATE the word "pride," by the way and so do the Siberians.

Honestly it is the first time when I hear that Siberian people take great pride :-))

I'm from Siberia. In general Siberians are very kind and hospitable people. Siberia is a very beautiful and interesting place. Yes, you should visit some Siberian cities and it would be better to visit the historical places and even health resorts.
