Question by Jason: Why do the former soviet republics like Estonia have better economies than Russia?
it appears russians don’t produce anything useful for export besides vodka, caviar, natural resources and weapons for killing people. why does even weak little georgia have a better economy than russia?
i ask in general for the former ussr republics and eastern europe. it seems like all of them are doing better than russia, except maybe the central asian republics.

you forgot exporting girls
joke or not a joke
Are you asking of Estonia or Georgia
I don’t know what Georgia produces and exports
but remember Estonia as well as Latvia and Litvenia are happened to be far less under communism regime than Russia, almost always resistant “occupation”, Visiting on of these republicsics in Soviet era, was almost as the same as visiting Eastern Europe.

@Polynesyan you have made a mistake about Czech Republic: it is a very developed country, let you see here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by…
It occupies the 28-th place by HDI(the UK occupies 26-th), but the crime rate is a lot of times lower in Czech Republic, than in the UK.France,Germany,I don`t speak already about the USA.
+You know about the level of education in the former socialist countries!
There are no emigrants and ghettos in Czech Republic. This country has perfect order in everything.
I have been 3 times in Czech Repuiblic,I like this country so very much. .
Also I like so very much "Czech" air company,it works as my favourite air company, "Austrian air lines" does! -Perfectly!
I can explain why Czech Republick is doing so well. It has received from the socialist regime a very good economical base and has developed it !
And Russia has put everything what has received from the former USSRt in the pockets of some thiefs.
But God has a lot of days in future and nobody, never will see the funerals of Russia !- .
Russia doesn`t produce anything useful for export, but produces cars, ships, trains, air planes, food, clothers, good medical equipment ,appliances for home and a lot of other goods FOR ITSELF !
And don`t forget that Russia was the first country in space,Yuriy Gagarin was the first cosmonaut of the world and still now Russia has the space air crafts on orbit, the best military planes, and civil air craft An-148(the only civil air craft of the world which doesn`t depend on vertical and horisontal visibility).

You are misinformed. All the former USSR republics are doing worse than Russia,
probably except Estonia.
You must have researched the matter carefully before posting an idiotic question.
Eastern Europe (Poland, Czech Republic) is at the same level, Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslav republics are doing worse. The only exception to the rule is small Slovenia that is much doing much better than the rest.
@ lyudmila, yeah, maybe I am wrong about Czech Republic, it is better off. I actually lived there for 1.5 years.
Good point is, yeah, Russia does not export a lot apart from oil & gas, but it generates 40% of its GDP inside the country, i.e. it produces for internal consumption rather than for exports.

Your question is odd to me. The former republics "seem" to be doing better? They are not.

BECS we have to build weapons to defend ourselves.
If we would not spent a lot of money tp military I am sure that NATO would not stop at Iraq and Yugoslavia. So all people live independent life without risk to be invaded by somebody.

I think the smaller economies are easier to manage. Russia is still struggling with some obsolete systems. Not to say that Russia is backwards at all. They are just struggling with the size of their country with the systems and infrastructure that they have in place.

Erm ,Georgia is a LOT poorer than Russia (statistically anyway – I've never been there). It's GDP per capita is 7 times lower! It's even below Swaziland!!! Estonia is slightly richer than Russia (once again only statistically) while Lithuania and Belarus are about the same. Ukraine is poorer. So Estonia is the only former USSR country to have a better economy than Russia (slightly). Also while the Czech Republic has a really impressive GDP it is the only former Eastern Bloc country to be doing much better than Russia.
You really need to learn how to use the internet and to research before asking stupid questions. In-fact pretty much every statement you have made in one paragraph has been incorrect. You either need a brain or you are a troll who purposely posts nonsense to get a response.
