Why do we need a treaty with russia?

Question by Phrimburger: Why do we need a treaty with russia to get rid of our nukes?
I highly doubt Russia would just nuke us if we had only enough nukes to destroy the world once over, instead of several times. We should set the example we want the rest of the world to follow, not drag our feet with a “I will if you will” kind of mentality. It is highly hypocritical of the US government to criticize other governments over nuclear weapons – it would be kind of like a gun shop owner complaining when other people wanted guns.

It’s one of the Nations many goals for 2010, Goals 2010.

The consequences, fate and agenda for the USA was decided in the 90s, which has been successfully carried out through a limited agenda as previously developed.

The USA has not had a freely functioning Federal government since the 90s, since its only goals have been to meet the agenda formerlly developed.

Nuclear weapon come at a big price tag. Russia can not support its current nuclear stockpile anyway. A treaty with the US allows Russians not to loose face. But it also allows the US to keep an eye on Russian nuclear and other weapon of mass destruction which otherwise could be smuggled a t the black market.

It is also important to note that if US undertakes massive reduction of its nuclear weapon, it may actually invite other countries to try to increase their own nuclear arsenals and seek military parity with the US. So the result could be quite the opposite to the intentions. Let's face it, nuclear weapon today is much less expensive option to high precision "conventional" weapon.

The nuke treaty will allow the Russians to check up on what we're doing, and will let the US check up on what they're doing. Plus the numbers of nukes will go down as well.

I have no idea why the Republicans would be against this sort of thing, but they are.
Actually, if Obama said the sky was blue, some Republicans would disagree and say the sky was green. I guess they need more of "something" at home to even out their temperment . . .
