Question by Jedbrien: Why does China buy military equipment from Russia if it has a higher military spending?
China’s military expenditures are (estimated by US) $ 150 billion and Russia is $ 61 billion. So why does China keep buying equipment off of Russia? Surely with more than twice the amount of spending,it’s own equipment will be better?

That’s a Chimpanzee-part-of-the-brain way to look at things.
Or you could look at WHAT China is buying and why. And when you do that please remember that China was politically isolated from advanced military technology by both the Soviet’s and the west from 1960 to 1990. That put them 3 decades behind the rest of the world – in 1990 China was still producing bad copies of 1950’s Soviet technology. That kind of a gap that takes a long time to close and one can not do it on internal resources alone. How long would it take China for example to develop something like the Su-27 or S-300PMU on its own?
