Why does my russian grandma want me to eat soup every day?

Question by I Am the Categorical Imperative: why does my russian grandma say I have to eat soup every day to be healthy?
she says I gotta have “warm liquids”, but when I say I drink green tea, she still insists it must be soup or borsch. I eat pretty healthy as it is and couldnt find any info about why soup could be REQUIRED. if it’s just a cultural thing, where does it come from?

Its a cultural thing, in Russia they used to generally only eat one full meal a day, for breakfast and lunch they had soup and for dinner they ate a full meal.

Soup is always a good source of nutrition, it is a staple in many ethnicities, because it's simple and healthy. Soups usually consist of vegetables, and generally a stock. The stock is the key ingredient, and usually homemade stock is a healthier alternative than canned with all the preservatives. Stock is generally made from marrow bones of pork, beef, lamb, fish, or poultry. The marrow is the star of this, and must be boiled slowly. Try this for some good stock.

Or do an online search for some other great recipes. Soups are loaded with vitamins and minerals, help with circulation, etc. Get creative, it's fun and healthy, and your house will smell fantastic! 😉
