Question by William J: Why has the Russian/USA relationship always been rocky?
For the past year.. I’ve been really interested in Geography and Government. Every now and then, I will hear that Russia and USA relations has always been somewhat on the rocky grounds.
In this day and time, I really don’t know what we’ve done to one another to distance ourselves. It’s not over forms of Government anymore, is it?
Hopefully it’ll get better. Today, on the news, I saw a rather pleasing conversation at the G20 Summit between Medvedev and Obama.

Despite our rocky relations, we’ve always managed to sit down with and converse with Russian leaders. Even during our worst point in relations, the Cold War.
It is entirely because these two countries are large economic powerhouses competing to be top dog on the world stage. Tensions reached their height when we got closest to being equal in power — the Cold War.
Hopefully it will get better, but Russia is gaining ground and I think their invasion of Georgia last year is a sign of what more is to come.

Because they always compete, they each try to be better at everything. Russia knows that America is good at certain things, and America knows that Russian is good at other things, and they've always tried to beat eachother. I'm talking about the history of Russia and America throughout the decades.
