Question by Xyjiryo: Why is Shostakovich’s music so hard to find in the USA?
It’s strangely hard to find purchasable music by him in the USA. Why is this?

I don’t have an expert answer, but I’m guessing it has to do with a little thing called the Cold War. But a lot of his more popular works are possible to find:

The reason is that, because Shostakovich’s music is still in copyright, only instrumental and chamber music is available for purchase. Orchestral music (in common with ALL copyrighted orchestral music) is available only for rental.
