Why Tzar Bomb was ineffective?

Question by Miyano: Why Tzar Bomb is ineffective?
Tzar Bomb is the most powerful atomic bomb ever made. It was made by Soviet Unions during the cold war, and was tested on October 30, 1961 in Novaya Zemlya. The yeild of the bomb was 50 megatones of TNT. Most references say that this bomb, although very powerful, is ineffective as a “city killer”. Some may even describe this huge bomb as “obsolete”. What is the reason for this?

The funny thing is, they only detonated it at half yield. It was designed to 100 megaton but was detonated at half of that to minimize fallout and give the pilots a fighting chance at escaping with their lives.

I haven’t personally heard anything about why it was ineffective, although I can speculate based on the fact that it was just massive and un-necessarily powerful.

I just wanted to add that little tidbit.

Almost everything is built on microchips now. And since nuclear weapons have an EMP Pulse they do not need to level a city anymore. That is the true reason why majority of nuclear weapons were either sold to North Korea or scrapped. Hit the right targets all power gone for it is where military bases and research centers are targeted. To immbolize not destroy.

The bombs should be drop on the enemies ,such a big and bulky bomb is ineffectrive becouse in military doctrines the aim is to inacctivate enemy not to destroy whole city,so thats whay moder warfare is becoming more digitalized. In order to drop the Tzar Bomb a Tu -95 was modified and a parachute was attached,it gave the chance to crew to escape. No one realy knows the real power of the Tzar Bomb.
    Let them rust in peace.

27 tonnes, 6,500 time greater power than our first bomb, and too big to use.
Bigger is not always better. Had this ever been used it would have been a scorched earth bomb leaving nothing usable for many kilometers.
It was not an effective tool of war. And it was not an atomic bomb it was thermonuclear, a hydrogen weapon.
