Why was Leon Trotsky never rehabilitated?

Question by Samian’s Sixth Account: Why was Leon Trotsky never rehabilitated unlike a lot of other Soviet leaders?
I understand that Bukharin, Zinoviyev, and Kamenev were all rehabilitated but why was such a major international figure like Trotsky never cleared?
Well, Kamenev was Jewish and he was rehabilitated..

Solid question. I’m going to guess that they didn’t want to bring attention to the fact that the USSR had him murdered, or acknowledge that they should have murdered Stalin instead.

it had nothing to do with trotsky being a jew,

He was the founder and ex leader of the red army he proved a dangerous figure for stalin and the regime to deal with as he may have organised rebellions or coups by the army on the government.

He was never rehabilitated until the russian federation because if they had admitted fault and claimed he was still a good and true communist then trotskyites would have instigated coups and riots on the USSR

    And why it should rehabilitate?
No one is going to, for example, the rehabilitation of Lenin or Ezhov.
He started a war against Poland.
He believes in Russia "hand" of Zionism conceived revolution.

He was distrusted by many Bolsheviks because of his Menshevik past – he only became a Bolshevik late in 1917. He was also popular, a great orator and because of the Red Army's affection for him and his administration skills a potential source of opposition to the party. He had also publicly proposed policies that were against Stalin's.
In exile he published many tracts, books and articles denouncing Stalin and what had become of the Revolution, believing that the revolution had been usurped by bureaucrats – creating a ruling (and therefore middle) class. He also thought that the Five Year Plans and Collectivisation were too centralist and anti-democratic.
So in a nutshell; he was distrusted, he was a potential source of opposition, he had publicly disagreed with Stalin, and he had written about how he thought the Revolution had been usurped.

    The Jewish background maybe?
    ——————————————————————
Yes, he was – but he was a heroic Jew.
Kamenev never run abroad like a cowardly dog.
He stood his ground and did become a martyr.

In 1935 Kamenev was arrested and charged with being involved in the assassination of Sergy Kirov. Found guilty he was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. The following year he was charged with forming a terrorist organisation to kill Joseph Stalin and other leaders of the government. Lev Kamenev was found guilty and executed in Moscow on 25th August, 1936.
