Question by : Is it safe to visit Moscow or will I be murdered in a skinheads attack?
I am going to moscow for a month but I am having panic attacks due to the fear of racism. I am an asian woman traveling alone. Has anyone been there recently and what is the situation?

There’s not much skinheads anymore but I would still watch out and most of the time they go for black people…I’m not racist

although there are skinheads everywhere, they are mostly in germany…

Yes, the racism is largely against blacks, because they are obviously not Russian. Those skinheads see black people as a plague that has infested the United States and most of Europe, and they don’t want the same thing happening to their Motherland.
Asians are not discriminated against that much. Russia shares a very long border with China where the races mingle, so there are plenty of very Asian-looking men and women who speak fluent Russian. They’re totally accepted because they ARE Russian.
You have more reason to worry because you’re female than because you’re Asian. As always, there is safety in numbers. Try to always be in a group. If you cannot, do not go out at night unless it’s a crowded touristy area. Crime is a serious problem in Russia due to police corruption… cops often don’t respond to calls for help, and criminals know this. Also, if you dress or look like a tourist, you’re more likely to get mugged since tourist often have cash and other valuables. Suggest you blend in as much as possible.
