Question by Ardaloth: Would Stalin have supported Georgia or Russia in the South Ossetia conflict then and now?
Before you answer, remember that Stalin was born in Georgia, not Russia. In August who do you think he would have supported, on his personality and beliefs.

First of all Stalin was a Georgian…secondly he starved countless Ukrainians in the 1920’s to gain the Ukrainian. So knowing the nature of the beast……do you think he would let South Ossetia succeed. The answer is no….he would crush them with an Iron fist.

He probably would have backed Russia. Above all considerations for Stalin was ideology. He would probably have seen the Georgians as representing the bourgeoisie and Russia as (more) representing the workers. So he would have sided with Russia. He would have justified it as "going to the aid of fraternal socialist proletarians, being over-run by the running dog of British and American Imperialism, the exploitative, bourgeoisie criminal cadre of Mikhail Shakashvili" – or something like that.

Though Stalin was georgian, his mother was Ossetian. So his nationality wouldn't interfere with his judgment.
And also nationality played little role in his decisions, I remind you that during his rule people were sent to Siberia not because of nationality, but because of loyalty to regime. Millions of russians also died, as georgians did. So if (and this if is enormous, because during Stalin rule people were even afraid to breath near him. There is a legend that top political figures of USSR after his death waited doing nohing, because they were afraid that he will ressurect and kill them if they dare to do anything), so if there would appear a conflict in Ossetia during that time, he would just sigh death punishment for several thousands georgians and ossetians to show both that they shouldn't mess with his opinion of brotherhood.
