Which singer is, after your opinion, the best and most skilled? Anna Netrebko or Roberta Peters?
When it comes to coloratura ability, high notes, vocal quality, nicest sounding voice, acting, charisma etc.
I like both Netrebko and Peters.

I’ll have a flutter betting on either in a pancake race — well, the season for that’s coming up, isn’t it? — having studied their respective ‘form’, but otherwise, to me, this is a profoundly pointless comparison.

They are not really the same kind of soprano. Natalie Dessay would be more like Roberta Peters, and even that comparison is not perfect. Laura Claycomb (whom I heard when she was in college) is another similar voice and is fantastic.

They're both great. Once again, that's like comparing apples and oranges.
Let me give you a L.A. lesson. If you are asking about TWO things, you use "which opera singer is the better of these two?" You can say "which opera singer is the best of these five" but not "which oper singer is the best of these two".
