No, not at all. It's specifically designed to fire 7.62 x 39. There are conversions out there, but it requires some degree of work to get them to function correctly with different rounds.

He may have been referring to different bullet (the projectile itself) weights that are available. If I remember correctly the standard weight of a military ball round is 123grs, but there are sporting and specialty bullets available up to 150grs and more. But to answer the basic question; if a rifle is chambered in 7.62×39 that is the one and only cartridge that can be safely chambered and fired in that rifle wether that rifle is an AK 47 or any other firearm.
