As long as you have a Russian visa, you can travel anywhere in the country. It doesn't matter where the invitation came from. Just remember that you have to register in the city where you are staying the most number of days. Registration has to be completed within the first 3 days of your arrival. The tourist agency that provided you with the invitation or the hotel where you will be staying should help with the registration.
