Your questions was originally asked from Yahoo!Answers® United States. Obviously you are not an American since they don’t need transit visa for London. A sensible answer is not possible since you have failed to disclose your citizenship. Without knowing which country you hold a passport of we cannot give you a good answer. Please add details to your question!..

It is correct that you do not need a visa as long as you stay within the transit area of the airport.

But actually, without a Russian visa you wouldn’t even be allowed out of the transit area in the first place. So, nothing to even worry about.

If you fly into the same airport you will be flying out of, and not leaving the airport secured area you will not need a transit visa.
