More than 14,000 dogs of 236 breeds were brought to Moscow’s Crocus-Expo hall on March 27-28 to take part in the EURASIA 2010 Russian Dog Show. They came from many Russian cities as well as from Europe, America and Australia to compete in the presence of 65 experts from 25 countries.
“The preparation for this biggest event, – says Aleksandr Inshakov, the President of the Russian Cynological Federation (RKF), – took the whole year. The show was arranged not only for professionals but for ordinary dog owners who want to help their pets to be healthy and happy.”
This time EURASIA dog show’s winners were:
First Place – Shih Tzu, Ryzhaia Sonia Tremendous Goodluck, owners – Kichanova, Dyakonov
Second Place – Scotch Terrier, Gemma Stonehenge Estate Shiraz, owner – Henkina
Third Place – Newfoundland, Aetna Vom Riesrand, owner – Abutova
The most prestigious Russian dog show is designed to be a Russian version of Westminster in the US and Crufts in Great Britain. EURASIA is happening each year since 1991 and has received its international status in 1996. This time it took place right after Rico became the first ever Russian dog who won Reserve Best in Show at Crufts.
Alongside with traditional dog competition the EURASIA Dog Show includes a lot of other spectacular events, such as best young handler, best breeder (video), best dog costume, and best freestyle dancer (video) contests.
EURASIA 2010 has also become an impressive demonstration of Russian national dog breeds – elegant Borzoi, formidable guard dogs, clever hunting dogs, and tiny companions.
Here are two videos with Borzois and Russian shepherds attending the Moscow dog show.
