I DON'T KNOW HOW OLD YOU ARE, BUT HAVE YOU EVER HEARD THE TERM MEXICAN STANDOFF? IT'S WHERE TWO GUYS; BOTH WITH GUNS POINTED AT EACH OTHERS HEADS TRY TO DECIDE WHO PULLS THE TRIGGER FIRST. EITHER WAY BOTH ARE GOING TO DIE BECAUSE THE BULLET STRIKE IN THE HEAD MAKES THE FIRST MAN HIT FLINCH AND PULL HIS TRIGGER.

I seriously doubt a Nuclear War would have taken place. It was always the cat and mouse game during the Cold War. I will say that there would be more Communist Countries than we have now, had the USSR not went democratic. Yes, Russia is once again working to become a serious issue, but even worst, is CHINA has moved up drastically over the past two decades. If any major World War would break out, it would end by using Nuclear Weapons.

Well, it is all an if than situation.
-IF the leader of the new soviet union is a radical fanatic hell bent on American extinction, THAN it would absolutely happen.
-IF the new soviet leader turns out like Putin or Gorbachev, THAN red october will not come to bear.
Either way, nuclear war between the 2 largest nuclear capable powers only spells all out annihilation of the entire human race, no survivors like movies and video games make it appear…. everything would be destroyed, Mutually Assured Destruction = M.A.D.
