How can I find information on old Soviet States?

Question by Prophet Christopher: How do I find information on old Soviet States?
I’m interested in learning about the states of the old Soviet Union, the ones that became independent after the USSR collapsed in 1991. Is there a site somewhere that can help me learn about this?

I’d ‘google’ each individual area, like Lithuania or Ukraine, or look in Wikipedia. There would be history sections about each one. I’m sure there is some information in Wikipedia or somewhere that would tell you about the Soviet Union and list the individual ‘republics’ as they were called, and you could look up the individual places and their histroy.
