How did Nicholas II and other Russian Tzars make money?

Question by Jess: How did the Russian Tzar’s make money? (Specifically Nicholas II)?
How did they make a living/how did they make money for their own personal use? Approx. how much did they make a year?
I am not looking for how they got money (taxes) to use on public services, I’m looking for how they were paid for personal use-like a salary (to buy clothes and build palaces for themselves). Did he own land and recieved the profits from it, or was he just paid a set salary?

Taxes. They were the government, so all the money taken in from taxes was theirs.

There was no distinction between the accounts of the Czar and all other state accounts for the government of Russia. He could draw without limit on all state funds as if those monies were his personal funds. The effects of the combination drove his Finance Minister crazy.

Pre-revolution, the Russian economy prospered through grain exports, industrialization and rail building, and heavy foreign investment. The State imposed heavy custom duties on all imported items, about 30% or more. The State was also heavily in debt to foreign investors and governments.
