Question by Baussman: How did people make money in the Soviet Union?
In Soviet Russia, did everyone get paid the same amount? If someone didn’t have a job, what would happen? Would they still be given food or would they be taken away by the KGB? Did different jobs have different salaries?

There was just as wide a range of incomes in the Soviet Union as in the West at the same time. Also those with connections to the Party or with access to foreign currency could buy additional goods and privileges in a society that otherwise always had chronic shortages.
The USSR was a planned economy and Labour was directed. Those who persistently refused work were considered parasites and would face "re-education", often in a Labour Camp. Often factories were heavily overmanned but wages were poor and little could be bought with them.
A common joke about the Soviet system was "we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us" http://www.academicdb.com/Engineering/Peter_Palch…
