Question by evavhiguera: How did the death of Tsar Nicholas in 1918 affect the 20th century?
I am writing a paper regarding the impact of the death of the tsar, as well as the how all of the scientific research on the Romanov bones impacted the 20 century. I read The Romanovs: The Final Chapter, which discussed the scientific process of identifying their bones.

You could talk about how the missing bones of Anastasia and Alexander caused rumors that they had escaped and how many women later showed up claiming to be the princess to try to get some inheritance. They had to use DNA for proof. It’s pretty interesting, and there’s also a movie (fictional) called Anastasia that was based off the mysterious disappearance of the princess. The burnt remains of the missing prince and princess were later found and closed the question of whether or not they escaped.
Also, the death of the tsar led to Russia becoming communist and all the events that happened after that, including pulling out of WWII, Cold War, etc.
And just for fun, you can toss in a bit about Rasputin (look him up if you don’t know him, he’s kinda interesting/creepy) to lead into why the Tsar and his family was killed.

The commies took over. The USSR becomes a power house. And it blows out because it overspends in a weapons race with the us.

I always wondered why his British relatives just sat on their hands while he was under arrest. They had about a year to come and get him, they could have paid bribes, the Russians at the time would have probably stuffed them all on a train and shipped them West. But NOBODY did ANYTHING. So, once the Communists had enough control, it was all over for the Tsar. I’ve always thought that his execution was kind of rushed: it seems like maybe he was about to be rescued? But then some other guys shot him? Very messy, to say the least.
