Question by James56: How much did USSR spend on nuclear weapons?
Does anyone know around about how much the USSR spent on nuclear weapons during the cold war? It would help me out a lot. Thanks

The Soviet Union did not use cash economy for state expenditure. So to extrapolate a figure in Rubles is very difficult . The best estimate of the amount they spent on all their armed forces is about 35% of GDP. To put this into perspective – the US spent about 18% at most on the military.
The Soviet Union also spent more on nuclear arms than the US as a total of their military expenditure – so about 15 – 20% of the total spent was on nuclear weapons.
The Soviet GDP was at its height about 8000 billion Rubles – so about 2800 rubles on the military and about 560 billion rubles – about 24 billion Dollars at todays prices, but the ruble was worth a lot less. I would estimate at about 10 times less – so about 2.4 billion dollars annually. (of course the figures are just guestimates)
