How much is the cheapest train ticket from Moscow to St.Petersburg?

Question by a r: How much is the cheapest train ticket from Moscow to Saint Petersburg?

That will vary hugely – which train, which day, how far in advance, how many stops, etc. Transit time runs anywhere between 4 and 10 hours. There are also 3 classes of train ticket: 1st class is a private Pullman-type cabin, 2nd class is a “coupe” cabin shared w/ 3 other people, and 3rd class is a coach seat.

I went to the website below, arbitrarily chose a Moscow departure on 10 February and a return 15 February, then scrolled down the list. The cheapest ticket to SPb was 3rd class on Train # 030A departing Moscow’s Leningradsky station @ 01:05 and arriving at St. Petersburg’s Moskovsky station @ 10:00 – an 8:55-hour ride – for US$ 11. The cheapest return was Train # 029A, departing St. Petersburg’s Moskovsky station @ 21:59 and arriving at Moscow’s Leningradsky station @ 05:55 – a 7:56-hour ride – also for US$ 11. Awful departure/arrival times, awful # stops enroute, awful length of trip – but awfully cheap ride!!! There are express trains running just over 4 hours each way, but they are triple the price – assuming a 3rd class seat is available at all; the #167 “Nevsky Express on 15 Feb. had only 2nd Class w/ cleaning service for US$ 119

This website not only gives you prices & schedule; you can actually reserve and purchase your train ticket on it.

Of course: rates and seating availability are limited; your results may vary! 😛 Good luck!
