How old do I have to be to buy an AK47?

Question by sigmerc01: How old do I have to be and what do I need to buy an AK47?
I am looking forward to buy an AK47 this week after my birthday, but is 18 years old old enough for me to buy a gun and register under my name?
Or do I need my parents to buy it for me?
I live in TX by the way…if any one knows, please tell me

I would think that you would be able to buy a long gun at the age of 18. You can here in MO. I wouldnt think that it would be any different to buy an AK than it would to buy a New england Arms single shot. At least it isnt here. Pass the backround n buy the gun. All there is to it.

Do you have to resister guns in texas? that sounds more like a DC or california policy.

Jen……They arent illegal and there is no such thing as an assault weapon. Thats a term gun grabbers made up to scare the uninformed. The only thing that is restricted is the selective fire with full auto, which still arent illegal as long as you hold a class 3 ffl. If you must call it anything besides a semi auto, or AK-47 the proper term is tactical rifle, not assault weapon.

In Texas you should be all set.

The drill for buying a gun at a gun shop goes something like this:

    1. You show up and find the weapon you want and indicate you have a way to pay for it. Gun shops like cash best some will charge an extra 3% for a credit card purchase.

    2. The gun shop will have you fill out a form 4473 where you indicate that your not a felon on drugs etc.

    3. The gun shop will then call for the "instant" background check on you. This can take 15 mins to 45 or longer. I've never had it take longer than 45 mins.

    4. You get a clean background check back and go home with your weapon.

All that being said do you know what kind of AK you want?

There are a ton out there and not all are created equal. Do some research on this site and it might help you make a good choice for a first AK.

    AK's are a good time.

    Good luck

Depending on the state, 18 or 21 yo. Most likely you will need proof o gun safety training.

    Texas doesn't register guns..

All you need is money,a clean record ,a drivers license and be 18

If you are new to guns.. please take a safety course and always treat that firearm as if it were loaded.

In Texas there is no registry of guns unless it's a full auto. Now I'm not going to be a dickhead like another person who will say ak47 is illegal because it's full auto. He's and idiot, he knows who he is, and he can go fuck himself. And I can se the trolls have already appeared. Your probably getting a variant sem-auto version. And those are legal. 18 is old enough to buy a long arm. You have to be 21 to buy a handgun at a gun store. You can get it yourself. I would reccomend paying cash.

In Connecticut you need to be 18 or older a FBI background check and 14 days then money.

Check your local state law for the legal age. As far as how much money – about $ 450 for the average. I have one that I bought in 1999 (for $ 375) and every gun show I take it too I get at least 8 people asking me how much for it. They are great guns (don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise).

James and Jeff have it right. Here in the Lone Star State we still have the right to keep and bear arms. If you are 18 and don't have a criminal record or history of mental illness, you can purchase any long gun (rifle or shotgun). Wait three more years until you are 21 and you can buy a handgun.
Happy hunting! By the way, if you're in the Ft Worth area, there's a gun show this weekend, and you can pick on up there. (BTW, I'm assuming you want the semi auto version – the selective fire [full-auto] model is way more expensive and tougher to get)

texas is easy on gun control . . . no license . . . no permit . . . and an ak47 is completely legal to buy . . . as far as it being an assault weapon . . . we better start breaking all the big rocks in the world to little rocks so no one gets assaulted by one . . . anyhow, do yourself a favor and take the time to read about texas gun laws in the link i provided, it might keep you out of the pokey. something else to consider is you might want to buy an ak " 74" the 5.45×39 ammo is alot cheaper than the 7.62 being used in a ak47.

    PURCHASE
A Texas resident, if not otherwise precluded by law,
may purchase rifles and shotguns, ammunition, reloading
components, or firearms accessories in contiguous states.
It is unlawful to sell, rent, loan or give a handgun to any
person if it is known that the person intends to use it unlawfully.
It is unlawful to knowingly sell, rent, give or offer to
sell, rent or give any firearm to a person under 18 years of
age, without the written consent of his parent or guardian.
It is unlawful to knowingly or recklessly sell any firearm or
ammunition to any person who is intoxicated.

    POSSESSION
No state license is required to possess a rifle, shotgun or
handgun. There are restrictions on possession by a person:
convicted of a felony or a Class A misdemeanor involving
the person’s family or household; or subject to certain orders
issued under the Family Code or Code of Criminal Procedure.

Do you mean a real selective fire AK-47 or a semiauto look a like.
If a semi-auto just show your ID wait for the instant background check to go through pay the money and take it home. The selective fire version requires the Federal transfer tax and assorted paperwork. You will have to wait awhile before it is approved. I believe the age limit is 21, but then again few 18 year olds can afford one. The Selective fire ones run about $ 10,000-$ 12,000, the semiauto only ones about $ 400.

Well, all you'll need is a state ID or Drivers license that states you are eighteen, fill out the proper form and pay the shop the appropriate amount, about 500 dollars I would think.

As long as you're eighteen and don't have any trouble with the law you'll be great.

You don't register your guns in Texas.

In Texas, all you'll need is a drivers license, a clean criminal record, and a wad of cash.
    Have fun!
