Question by Brian: How does one sharpen an AK-47 firing pin?
With an old, old, old russian AK-47 that has a blunted firing pin, a round will not fire because the firing pin is too blunt. How does one sparpen an AK-47 firing pin?

you don’t
If the round wont fire because of the firing pin it’s because the pin is worn down not because it is not sharp
Sharpening it will only make it shorter
Buy a new pin for a couple of dollars

Let's see…… pressure on the trigger removes the sear from engagement with the hammer, allowing the hammer to strike forward.
Hammer strikes forward, striking against the firing pin.
Firing pin moves forward in the bolt, striking against and piercing the primer of the cartridge.
Primer ignites, starting the powder charge burning.
Gas pressure blows the bullet into the barrel of the gun.
Bullet is plugging the bore, keeping pressures nice and high.
Being that pressure tends to equalize when it is given a chance and that the back end of the cartridge now is open because of the pierced primer, white-hot gas at about 42,000 pounds per square inch of pressure blows straight back into the action of the gun, removing the magazine rather violently, straight down, removing the front of the trousers of the shooter, also any body parts which happen to be in the way. Shooter, if he lives, now gets a job singing soprano in the church choir.

DON'T DO IT !!!! Thoroughly clean your gun, paying particular attention to the bolt assembly. If that don't work, have a qualified gunsmith/person replace the firing pin and/or spring.

it may not only be blunt, but too short as well : replace it.

One doesnt. One buys a new one for about $ 10. One really doesnt want to puncture the primer, that would be bad, likely causeing the bullet to lodge in the barrel, and a screwed up bolt to boot. Not to mention the potential for a face full of burning powder

Wrong, Kim-o-sabe. Tonto say much crud built up not allowing firing pin to travel full length, causing short strike on primer. Tonto also say too freakin' bad Indians no have AK's to fight blue shirts.

One doesn't sharpen a firing pin. The last hing you want is a punctured primer.
Your problem is more likely a 'weak strike' than a shortened pin.
Strip that bolt and clean out all the gunk built up in the bolt body firing pin recess.
Check for a weakened firing pin or hammer spring, or anything else that might retard the strike.
