Question by Alex: How did the French Revolution affect the Russian Revolution?
In Social Studies I was given two events (the Russian/French Revolution) and told to find how the first one affected the second. I have plenty of info on each but I can’t connect the two. Any help?

The Russian Revolution was the most important revolution of the 20th century, and was one of the most important revolutions in the history of the world. I would place it as the third most important revolution after the American and French Revolutions. Like the American Revolution, and most other revolutions, the Russian Revolution was a revolution against economic oppression. In addition to this, the Russian Revolution started out as a revolution for democracy

Start off slow and simple. Both revolutions deposed unelected monarchs, a king and a czar. They royal families were both executed. There was a class hatred in both revolutions. French and Russian peasants bore animosity towards the upper classes. In both Revolutions the military abandoned leaders and mutinied against the government. Use this plane of thought and it will all come together for you. The French was in the 1780's and the Russian was in 1917.

The French Revolution showed that the power of the people can overwhelm even the most entrenched aristocracy. It also shows that, while repression and war can be tolerated by the general populace, economic incompetence and military failure are a dire combination for any government trying to maintain its hold on power. An opponent strikes when the enemy is at its weakest and most vulnerable.
