Question by jonow b: How would I teach my self how to speak write and read Russian?
I’m very interested in learning Russian but because I don’t have a formal teacher I would know where to start. My school only offers French Spanish and Japanese taking French not my choice. Are there any beginner guides I can use so that I will know how long I should spend on a topic.

Hi, sorry to say that but I have never seen a really good textbook on Russian for English-speaking people.
If you want to start speaking soon, try Rossetta Stone.
But I’d advise you to start with something free first – to see if you can actually do it, because Russian is quite a tricky language.First of all, register on livemocha. Here you can read on some free resourses for Russian available online:
