Ted says
Right-wing view: Ronald Reagan singlehandedly defeated the Soviet Union
Reality: Reagan was one of many, many factors that went into the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Some include:
1. The Soviet Union’s entry into the Afghan war in 1979, which drained a lot from its budget.
2. Ethnic separatism in the Soviet Union, particularly in the Baltics.
3. Lech Walesa and the Solidarity movement in neighboring Poland.
4. The Chernobyl disaster.
5. Funding of proxy wars over several years (e.g., Vietnam)
6. Funding of socialist regimes in other nations (e.g., Cuba)
7. Pope John Paul II, a Pole, as an inspirational figure.
8. Reforms put in place by Gorbachev
9. Increased communications with the west
10. The East German border guards who let East Germans flee the country after they stopped reinforcing the restrictions on travel.

I honestly believe the USSR did win the ideological battle.
Check out this vidja and you’ll see what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeMZGGQ0ERk
My nation is totally demoralized, lost all we once stood for. And to many in Washington, the cold war never ended. We just found a new enemy. And it’s destroying us.
And the USSR did have problems with the middle east. As a matter of fact, they were doing exactly what we are now in that region.
And there would have been a lot of blood shed and western civilization would have entered into a new dark age IMO.

It never would have happened, it is like trying to explain what happens when you divide by 0.

The only people who won the Cold War were defense contractors . And they won big !

Slavery.
Hipster scootaloo says
How would they win? The only way the US was declared winner was because the USSR dissolved as a geopolitical landmass. It would still be going on today if it didn’t collapse. Which could have possibly happened if the USSR wasn’t run by morons.
