In what language should I read War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy?

Question by Erick: Question about War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy?
I’m currently learning how to speak Russian, and one of my goals is to be able to read War and Peace in Russian. My question is, should I read the book in English first, to get a grasp of the story, or should I wait and read it first in Russian? I realize that some books lose their value when translated into other languages and was wondering if this was the case for this book. Thanks for all answers in advance.

I would suggest reading it in English first since you’re just learning Russian and it’s not an easy book to read in first place. Like any classic writer Tolstoy wants you to read ” between the lines” so read it in English first so you can get the concept in my opinion.
