Is it safe to let a minor travel with friends to Russia?

Question by littlebored99: How safe is it to let a minor travel with friends to Russia?
My 14yr old wants to go with her girlfriends family to Russia for the summer. She of course speaks no Russian and has never been out of the country before. Should I let her go? What are some risk that I should be aware before deciding?

i think she is young, but if there will be adult supervision, you should at least consider it. it is a great opportunity to be able to go out of the county and experience different cultures. it might be a great learning experience for her and she will remember it for the rest of her life. make sure you set some boundries and definately have a long conversation with the family who will be resposible with her.

good luck in your decision!

Like people said above if you know parents very well and trust them and they be with them whole time it could be wonderful and they learn a lot. Thought if live in north Caucasus i woulded advise there a lot of social tension and terrorist attacks.

What I can say is that concerning the country there is no problem, the same safety and danger exist as in most other countries.
So, now u have to judge the maturity of your daughter and the
    trustworthy of this parents' friend.

well i think – on one hand why not! She'll have a chance to see a complitely different country, meet our people, culture. And probably that family she might go with would visit all their relatives, it could be fun and interesting. But on the other hand – would that family have enough time to watch on them? would they care? Cause girls might not want to seat under the table all the time in guests, and would wanna go out. And your girl would definatly put an attention on her – cause she is a foreigner. In what city they're going? If their goal to travel through russia – then i think it would be ok to go, and i agree with the previous answer – how do YOU feel about it? Is your girl a good one? i mean is she responsible for herself? not those weird only parting? If you're sure in her, you trust her – then bon voyage!
And of course you should have a serious talk with that family, does they really want her to go with them? or it just girls who wants to go together?

    good luck

If you feel your daughter has a good level of common sense and maturity (at age 14, kids can really be either) and she will be supervised by her friends parents the whole time (as well as the parents being trustworthy… have you talked with them very seriously?) it would be an amazing experience for her. Russia however is a VERY different place from here and much more 'dangerous' in some respects, check out the area she'll be staying… cities might be very intense. Also consider if your daughter gets home sick easy… changing her ticket could be very exspensive if she has a hard time.
