    Sputnik 1 launched October 4th 1957 . It fell from orbit January 4th 1958 . It was in orbit for 92 days during that time it completed 1,440 orbits of the Earth.
    Telstar 1 launched July 10th 1962 Telstar suffered transistor failure and went out of service on February 21st 1963. According to the US Space Objects Registry, Telstar 1 and 2 were still in orbit as of May 2010.

    I think so they are difficult to remove once there in orbit or if they fly away. But I think that one got into orbit, so yeah it is. It was funny in the 60's how the U.S though it was a weapon or something when all it did was create random noises.

    Sputnik 1 was launched on October 4, 1957. It re-entered the Earth's atmosphere and burned up on January 4, 1958.

    Telstar 1 was launched July 10, 1962. It went out of service on February 21, 1963. Telstar 1 and 2 were still in orbit as of May 2010, with perigee about 1000 km from Earth.

    sputnik 1 burned up in the earth's atmosphere, during it's 1,400th orbit.
