Is today’s Russia a safe place to visit?

Question by Curious: Is Russia a safe place to visit?
I’m looking at traveling to Novosibirsk, but some friends of mine are warning me not to because os safety issues.

    Where on this world is safe? In my country we had 10 years of war, and I survived, maybe you can considere to come to visit my country;)

    russia is gorgeous….in select places. some places are poverty striken, so beware. i have been to russia, it is very pretty. the cathedrals there r beautiful! i love old pretty churches, just so long as i dont get attacked by nuns.
