Rachmaninoff pieces to start off with?

Question by : Rachmaninoff pieces to start off with?
I have been playing piano for my whole life and LOVE it. I would really like to learn a piece by Rachmaninoff, but I want to start with one of his less challenging ones and then gradually move up. If there are any other pieces that aren’t by him that sound just as great that is fine too!

I really like intense, emotional and moving pieces with a WOW factor.

Rachmaninoff composed a book of preludes, op 23, that includes many great pieces. one that sounds intense, also has a very emotional part to it, just as you described would be no 5 in g minor. There are also many more lyrical pieces in the book that you can explore.

Good luck! (:

Maybe you can try Rachmaninoff Tableaux op.39 11 etudes, one of the most popular etude classical musics.

Or you can try Rachmaninoff greatest work ever, piano concerto no.2 in C-minor. One of the most difficult and beautiful song in romantic era.
You can hear it, perfectly played by Evgeny Kissin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MGGyBIgPE8

You should play Rachmaninoff’s Elegie. Most beautiful piece ever, you’ll thank me 😉
