What was the purpose of why Nikita Khrushchev wanted to install the missiles in Cuba and why Fidel Castro agreed to have the Soviet missiles installed in Cuba.?

Fidel feared a US invasion or US-backed coup, which wasn’t an entirely unfounded fear, if you recall the botched Bay of Pigs Invasion. So having those missiles was a good deterrent.
Nikita just wanted to stick it to America.
However, there was never much love between Nikita and Fidel, they just had a common enemy.

Russia did this in response to nuclear missile facilities in our ally Turkey which bordered the USSR at the time

Khrushchev wanted to put missiles 90 miles from our shore in a bellicose more to threaten us. Remember, he wanted to "bury us."
Castro was a puppet of the Soviet Union, and did whatever they told him.
