Should I read Crime and Punishent before I get into Brothers Karamazov?

Question by Spiderwick: Dostoevsky readers: Is it a must that I read Crime and Punishent before I get into Brothers Karamazov?
Some say there are characters in BK based on C&P, hence one has to start off with C&P to understand BK. Is this true?

Not true at all. The more Dostoevsky you read, the easier it gets, but each book stands alone.
