The best way for typing in Russian?

Question by The Mighty Leviathan: What is the best way for typing in Russian?
I’m learning Russian, and am curious what there is for typing in the Russian alphabet.
I use online programs, so something that affects the entire computer, or an extension for Google Chrome would work.
Thanks!

The keyboard in your operating system has Russian keys that are not corresponding to the qwerty regular typewriter keyboard. It is a pain to hunt and peck for the Russian order. I just use the keyboard emulations on the web.

The Chrome extension, Clavier Russe by Raphlight
(5) – 201 users – Weekly installs: 26
Russian Keyboard. Allows you to type the cyrillic letters with your usual keyboard.

I searched under “Russian keyboard” in “extensions”, under “tools” tab, far right of Chrome.
Letters look about like our typewriter order, a bit different from “translit.com”.
I don’t understand what the reviewers are saying they don’t know how to toggle it? Just click on the “R” icon in “address toolbar” at top right of computer screen.
Only 201 people using it so far; 26 installs per week now.
Thanks for the heads up.
Reviewers say: “Just “zh” and “ch” aren’t working.”
Chrome doesn’t do that (translit.com does), but you don’t need those combinations. There are corresponding single keys: “w” is “ж” and “;” is “ч”.

Here is the Chrome keyboard layout:

асдфгхйклчё
зьцвбнм,.ъ

Before installing, there is a pop-up window…
“This extension needs access to your browsing history?” “OK?” Then Google will let you install it, fair trade?

    Hello!

"something that affects the entire computer" –

you can setup your regular system keyboard (to type in any application) for Russian Phonetic – click 'A' on your physical keyboard to get Russian 'A', O-O, …:

or you can do it online (by mouse or by physical keyboard):

You can go to your Control Panel and select Russian as a language you use. You have to enable the Language panel. I usually put it on my taskbar. Now you can switch languages and by doing so you can switch your keyboard layout and everything. The problem with this is that you don't know what you are typing because a normal qwerty doesn't match the Russian layout. But you have a virtual keyboard called On-Screen Keyboard. It also changes when you change your language.
