what were the most important turning points? how important was the death of stalin? which were the most important events in the chain to where we are today?

The most important turning point was the collapse of the Iron Curtain and the USSR itself. It split the USSR up in to tons of smaller independent countries.

Significant events:
-the Prague spring : the Czechoslovakia tried to soften the intensity of Communism by allowing human rights and another party in the parliament hence they were invaded by the USSR.
-Hungarian uprising : the Hungarians protested against the Communist and they were also invaded by the USSR.
Both of the events above occurred after the death of Stalin and if Stalin was in charged then the situation would be far more deadly.
Stalin’s death weekend the Ussr as the Pullet bureau fought among each other.
