Russia gave us great literature, from novelists such as Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Ivan Turgenev; great music from composers like Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Aleksandr Borodin; great dance from the Bolshoi Ballet;
They also gave us my favorite soup: Borscht

Don’t forget the periodic table of elements (Mendeleev); early rocket research (Tsiolkovskiy); military science (Aleksandr Nevskiy, A.V. Suvorov; Kutuzov); architecture (St Basil’s Cathedral, kremlins throughout Russia, St Petersburg palaces). Actually, the city of St Petersburg is quite a contribution in its own right, it (like Venice) is built on a swamp – but it opened Russia up to trade with western Europe.
