Despite the fact that Stalin was a paranoid, sociopath murderer that gutted the Russian military in the 30's; he pulled the nation together in it's darkest hour with the German army on the doorsteps of Moscow.

He then participated, but not lead, the Russian military to help defeat the German army.

It's hard to find something positive about such a person as Stalin given his track record before and after the war.

I have always wondered what Zhukov told Stalin when he was called in to defend Moscow. Something very profound was stated with just these 2 men together. Zhukov had a free hand in military matters after this battle…well, that's a different question.

There is no doubt that Stalin is responsible for mass murder of millions of his people. The failure of the five year plans and collective farming leaves little room for saying anything positive.

The situation with Lenin is profoundly different. "i know they're horrible" simple reveals your political bias. Like it or not having been raised in a western, Liberal parliamentary democracy you have unconsciously adopted many deeply ideological and political ideas.

Is your objection to Lenin simply that he was the driving force behind the Russian Communist revolution? So there is on positive he liberated the Russian peasantry and proletariat from the oppression and exploitation of Tsarism.
