1. Trotsky supported freely elected officials instead of the vast bureaucratization of the communist party (which Stalin initiated).

2. As number 2 man in the communist party, Trotsky represented a threat to Stalin’s absolute rule.

3. Trotsky opposed Stalin’s economic plans … centrally planned economy.
