Question by Brian: What did Stalin do after he became leader?
I know Stalin set up the five-year plan after he became leader, and I do believe he began to mobilize the U.S.S.R. right? Did anything else happen that lead to WW2? Like, what lead to the non-aggression pact between Germany and Russia and WWII. I can’t seem to find anything that happened to this period of time other than the five-year plan.

Stalin started to build up the Russian Military in case of an attack from Germany, he also signed the Non Aggression pact with Germany which said that neither would invade the other and it divided up Europe between Germany and the Soviet Union, he also had the congress of victors (victims) where he killed all that opposed him, the great purge was also similar to this he sent out secret police to kill opposition leaders or people that he suspected of working against him
What led to the Non-Aggression pact was Russia's fear of invasion by German forces because they were devastated in WWI

Stalin started the collectivization of agriculture and started building heavy industries.
There were a lot of bad side effects and evil deeds, but if you search on soviet central planning you'll get a lot of information. This had nothing to do with the start of WWII.
The German-Soviet non-aggression pact came about because the Germans didn't want the USSR attacking them while they were preoccupied in the West, and because the Russians almost got their butts kicked in the far east in 1938 by the Japanese and Stalin didn't feel ready for a war.
