Question by sleepydad: What governments besides Russia and China were influenced by Marxism in the early 19th century?
I’m writing a paper on this subject and was looking for any information or web sites that you might be able to direct me to. I’m looking for anything about how Karl Marx ideas affected other countries besides Russia and China. (In the 19th and early 20th century.)

In the early 19th century, Marxism didn’t yet exist.
The earliest example of a government significantly influenced by Marxism was probably the Paris Commune (1871). Germany also had significant Marxist movements in the early 20th century.

During the 19th Century Marxism only really affected the Paris Commune – Marxism did not exist until about 1848 – with the publishing of the Communist Manifesto.
In the early 20th Century Marxism took hold not only in Russia, but also in much of Central Europe following the chaos of WWI. In Germany there were two attempts at Marxist Revolution – the short lived Bavarian Soviet ruled Munich in 1919, and in Berlin the the Spartacists attempted a revolution: both were put down.
In Hungary, also in 1919, Bela Kun, led a revolution – the Hungarian Soviet – that was only put down after Romania invaded.
In Italy, France and Spain Marxist ideas were popular, although they never presented a serious threat to the regimes – especially in Italy after Mussolini and his Fascists took power.
