How can this phenomenon be explained?

By them dying in a very cold area that has not had significant warmth recently enough to allow the corpses to decay.

the mammoths were most likly in the area whe new snow landed (maybe as far back as the last ice age) and the snow has built up on top of them, and due to the natural effects of the earth warming, the snow/ice is melting and and causing them to be releced from there 'icey grave' so to speak…

they could have fell into some very deep snow that they couldnt get out of and most likely thats how they froze to death

Because the ice age didn't happen gradually. It happened quickly. Not only were they frozen, but they were frozen while eating grass and they still had grass in there mouth when they were found. Not only did it happen extremely quick, but it had to be extremely cold to freeze a mammoth. It is believed that two that were found froze to death while standing up. This conclusion was made due to the position they were found in. I studied about this in high school back in the early 70s.
