What type of clothing is appropriate for minus 25 Celsius Russian weather?

Question by Orthodoxia I Thanatos: What type of clothing is appropriate for -25 Celsius weather – in Russia?
I am visiting Russia in about 12 days, staying there for 3 months.

I haven’t been in a long time and have forgotten what it feels like, I live in Cali, and the worst we get here is a couple of rains. Have no clothes.

Anyone have any suggestions?

we were at -18c today. -25 isnt MUCH different. i wear for such occasions: thermal underwear-shirt and “long-johns.” heavy (like beefy-t) t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, pullover sweater, wool muffler, and leather motorcycle-type jacket. JEANS are very good against cold. heavy denim. take a ski-bib if you have one and plan to slow nature walk, or something peaceful outside in the weather! i am originally from texas, and these do quite well for me. i have a couple of goose-down parkas that also fight-off the cold, just too bulky…
FOOTWEAR! if you will be walking in -25, first thing to buy is gigantic boots. they are about an inch thick on the bottom, wool felt, (NOT GOOD IN WETNESS but in -25, only mercury is liquid and antifreeze…) the legs are wool fleece almost to the knee $ 100. come in insulated boots.
ski gloves-VERY thick leather ones. your fingers may still get cold. a fur hat, rabbit maybe $ 10; fox, etc $ 100 or more i think. i have had mine for years.
-25 isn’t too bad. it is -30, -35 that hits like a cold brick into your face! we seldom have wind in udmurtiya, where i spend winters, (hate texas wet, chilly winters) but it can be rough if windy. today was a bit. 7 or 8 meters a second roughly translate to 15 miles per hour. just double it… the coldest i’ve seen so far is -39.
welcome to russia!

I went to Russia last year at almost this same time. I got some coat and boots that I use here for skiing, but even those didn't keep me very warm.
    I made just one mistake:
Delta lost my luggage, and when I landed in Moscow all I had on me was a sweater and a thin jacket. My girlfriend took me to her city, and they sent my clothes there only in 3 days. I was lucky she had a relative of my size – he gave me some warm stuff to wear until I got mine back.
So, my advice: don't leave all your warm clothes in your luggage – you don't know what can happen.
And here are some sourses you may want to read before going too:

U didn't mention what part of Russia you are going to visit. Because very soon it must get a bit warmer (in 8-9 days), then spring must begin and it will be much warmer in the most part of the country. Anyway consult weather.com Particularly for the temperatrure -25 degrees Celsius I would prefer a fur coat or jacket, a winter fur cap, underpants with trousers or winter jeans and warm shoes. I don't recommend you to wear cloths of fur under the temperatures higher than -10 degrees because they are heavy and not practical. Anyway u can buy additional cloths if u need. There is no problem with shopping everywhere.
