Question by blueStaR: When is the peak season for tourists to visit Moscow and St Petersburg?
And also the low season?
Also, my country doesn’t require a visa to enter the Russian Federation, does that mean I dont need an invitation letter?
Thanks (:

Which country do you live ?
i currently live in Russia – Moscow..usually tourist tend to visit Russia around June – August ….the summer season!
concerning visa you have 2 type of visa in your case (if visa is needed)
1. tourist visa – validity 30 days
i would advised to make a temporary booking (you will need a voucher from hotel) + have a travel insurance + visa application form and a passport photo then submit for your visa (free is not so expensive)
2. Private VIsa – Validity up to 90 days
you will need an invitation which a friend or relative in russia will send you (they will get it through the FMS – Federeal Migration Office) + Travel Insurance + application form and Passport photo
Low season is mostly during winter

iceman says
Peak season late Mat through early September
Low Season October through February
Strange as it sounds it can be quite cold in St. Petersburg in the spring and fall. I've been in a sleet storm in July.
I assume you are coming in from Ukraine (or a similar country) so no you will not be needing an invitation letter to visit.
