Question by ihaveissues: Which translation of Leo Tolstoy’s “War and Peace” should I read?
I really want to read War and Peace as I have heard by many that it is the best novel on earth. However, while browsing through the bookstore, I found 3 or 4 different English translations. Which should I get? Which is deemed by most to be the best?

There is recently the latest translation by Anthony Briggs and published by Penguin in the hardcover and the softcover with reasonable prices. I think it is more readable & thus understandable than the previous ones. However, there is news that there will be a new joint translation by the prestigious couple, Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky, to be published in the Everyman’s Library’s series by Alfred A. Knopf. This is also more interesting since the couple won the translation prize of “The Brothers Karamazov”. Ms. Volokhonsky is a Russian native speaker.
