Andrei Sakharov (1921-1989) was a Russian nuclear physicist. He was important in Soviet Union developing the H-Bomb, but was against its use as a weapon, and became a prominent Soviet dissident and human rights activist. He was awarded the Nobel Peace prize in 1975.

Yelena Bonner (born 1923) was a human rights activist in the Soviet Union.She married Sakharov in 1972.
