The theory of communism offered better distribution of wealth than the aristocracy it replaced. The theory of capitalism, expressed by Adam Smith, allows the markets to redistribute wealth in favor of a small percentage of the population and allows most citizens to suffer deprivation. When disparities become great enough, there are frequently revolts by those who are suffering. If you study the French Revolution, American Revolution, or recent uprisings in the Middle East, then you will observe similar economic upheavals. In the United States, more than 40% of wealth is controlled by only one percent of the population, so wealth disparity is dramatic and there are signs of break-down of the society. Northern Europe has learned more from history and adopted more moderate models for the distribution of wealth.

Communism in itself is a good idea – the highest form of democracy, i.e. 'people power'.

Another thing that it cannot be built in a separate country, so the ways thay have chosen were mistake. USSR has never been communist or even truly socialist – it was state controlled economy under dictatorship as a political regime

btw Swedes have proved that socialism is possible – they have built the society that USSR had been striving at and failed, because Swedes built it on the basis of market economy

Neither Lenin nor other Bolsheviks thought about Russia in national terms. According to the Bolsheviks' theoretical doctrine Russia was just space (not very convenient though, from their point of view) for the social experiment based on their version of Marxism.
The Bolsheviks with their class views believed that only the proletariat possessed the true quality necessary for future social development. All other classes were either temporary allies (the poorest peasants) or the enemies (all the rest).
The Bolsheviks anticipated the world proletarian revolution ignited by the events in Russia. So, Russia as a country and Russians as a people did not have any significance in the Bolsheviks' fantasies.
To understand Lenin’s class views on Russia see Lenin’s work of 1899 “The development of capitalism in Russia”. http://www.marx2mao.com/Lenin/DCR99tc.html http://www.marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1899/…

Because in Tsarist Russia life was really harsh for the peasants, and most of the population was composed of the poor peasants. The gov didn't do much to improve their lives, meanwhile they had all the luxury. Lenin and the Bolshevik party wanted to improve the lives of the real Russian population, by overthrowing the tsar and creating a nation for the people, they in fact overthrew the Provisional Government that was already replacing the tsar. Their main slogan was: "Peace, Bread, and Land" which they did not have at the time of tsarist rule…
