Reagan Meets Gorbachev
American President Ronald Reagan meets directly with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev for the first time at a summit meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. The two leaders agree to work to reduce both countries' stockpiles of nuclear weapons.

Probably because Switzerland claimed they were neutral. Of course we now know they were in serious cahoots with the Nazis

To develop a little warmth. You know how it is, when you are tired of being close, sidle up to somebody and share body heat!
Seriously, you are right rawr, the first meeting was in Geneva, not Helsinki. The two leaders met to discuss a bilateral reduction of nuclear armaments. It was beginning of perestroika and the transformation of U.S.-Soviet Relations. They began the discussions that lead to the Program on the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons by the Year 2000 (January 15, 1986) and the INF and the START Treaties.
